Plasmanet Thinks - Tuesday 27th May 2008
LG have recently announced their development of the first double-sided LCD screen.
They displayed two models at an event held in Los Angeles - the first a 2.2” display intended for mobile phones, and the second screen a 15” display screen which could form the basis for a range of large-screen double-sided displays.
According to a report by Tech On, both screens eliminate the need for a backlight through use of an Electrically Controlled Birefringence (ECB) display mode. Each pixel contains two transistors as opposed to one as well as so-called ‘white pixels’ which provide backlight where it’s needed.
Plasmanet have already installed back-to-back LCD’s for several of their Customers - either on trading floors or in contact centers. To date, this set up has required two screens, two inputs and two mounting brackets – which of course has both cost and stability implications.
Currently, LG’s screens are still at the prototype stage, but at the speed the technology is developing, we'll hopefully see two-faced screens hitting the market shortly. At Plasmanet we’re keeping an eye on progress, and offering access to this latest technology where it will offer genuine benefits.
